I ran for City Council because I believe that we all have a duty to find ways to connect with and contribute to our local community. I have been a member of various civic and non-profit organizations over the years and will continue to look for ways to serve my community.
Member of the Winterville Civitan Club. The Civitan Club provides hands-on community service projects and gives financial support to projects benefitting the community and people with developmental disabilities.
Former Member of the Winterville Citizens Advisory Committee. The Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) makes recommendations for projects in Winterville, including projects eligible for SPLOST and TSPLOST funding. Since the CAC makes funding recommendations to the City Council, I resigned after winning the election to avoid any conflict of interest.
Member of the Board of Directors of Firefly Trail Inc. Firefly Trail, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization incorporated in 2011 to develop the Firefly Trail along the historic Athens Branch of the Georgia Railroad corridor as the first segment of a multi-purpose regional trail system that complements local community initiatives. We're developing a 39-mile rail-trail from Athens to Union Point.
Founding member and former Chairperson of the Friends of the Winterville Firefly Trail Local Action Committee. The primary objective of the Firefly local action committee is to encourage local residents to take ownership of the trail and help fully realize the potential of the Firefly Trail section in Winterville.
ACC Trail Ambassador. Trail Ambassadors provide assistance to trail patrons and help maintain the beauty of our trails by picking up trash and keeping an eye on trail conditions and possible hazards.
Former Vice President and Volunteer Coordinator of SORBA-Athens. The Athens chapter of the Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association focuses on increasing access to multi-use trails open to bikes. We also help build and maintain natural surface multi-use trails in the Athens area. I was selected as one of Athens Clarke-County Leisure Services' Star Volunteers of the Year in 2014 for my work at Walker Park (formerly known as Trail Creek Park).
